2025 Edition Recap: 42 Teams, 4 Countries, One Unforgettable Weekend

The KFAM International Youth Cup opened its very first edition in 2025, and it did so in style — 42 teams, more than 600 players, and academies from 4 countries converging on Kuala Lumpur for a weekend of football that set the tone for everything KFAM has run since.

Spread across two match days and four pitches — Elmina, Elmina City, Radia and X Arena — the inaugural edition brought together academies from across the region to compete in a structured, Korean-style youth format built around discipline, technical grounding and genuine cross-cultural exchange. For many of the young players on the pitch, it was their first time facing opponents from outside Malaysia.

Four Pitches, One Weekend

Running age divisions in parallel across four separate venues meant near-constant action throughout both days — early kick-offs, closely-fought group stages, and a steady flow of families and club officials moving between pitches to follow their teams. The spread across Elmina, Elmina City, Radia and X Arena also let KFAM host a larger field of teams than a single-venue format could have managed, a structure the tournament has kept for every edition since.

A Platform, Not Just a Competition

What stood out across the weekend wasn't just the scorelines — it was the pathway the tournament opened up. Academies that had never shared a pitch found themselves competing, and in some cases training alongside, clubs from entirely different footballing cultures. That mix is the whole premise behind the KFAM International Youth Cup: a competitive stage built specifically to let young players measure themselves against unfamiliar styles of play, not just the teams across town.

By the time the final whistles blew across all four venues, the numbers told their own story: 42 teams, 600+ players, 4 countries, and a tournament that had officially outgrown being a one-off event. Six months later, KFAM ran it again — bigger, across more age divisions — in the June 2026 edition.
